The proliferation and the acquisition of stem cell fates are coordinated by a small number of highly evolutionarily conserved signaling pathways, such as the Wnt signaling. The Wnt pathway proteins are a group of intracellular signaling molecules that constitute the principal driving force behind the biology of the crypt and play an important role in the maintenance and proliferation of stem cell reservoirs [10]. c-Myc and cyclin D1 are oncogenes, the key signatory genes of Wnt signaling, and both function in the stimulation of cell proliferation and in resistance to apoptosis.
