When an oral examination is required it shall take place after the written module examination(s) have been concluded.
The oral examination is designed to test understanding and ability to reason in the field of welding.
Oral examination is only mandatory for the IWE level, but at the discretion of the Examination Board IWE Candidates
may be granted exemption from oral examination in any module in which they achieved >75% of the maximum
possible mark in the written examination. For the other levels of training the oral examination will be optional
at the discretion of the Examination Board.

For the IWE level the total time devoted to the oral examination, covering all four modules, shall be a minimum of 1
hour per candidate.
