The engagement-as-usual condition was modeled after community-based adolescent outpatient programs’ approaches to engagement in the Miami area. The results of the study revealed that 93% of the families in the BSFT engagement condition, compared with only 42% of the families in the engagement-as-usual condition, were engaged in treatment (defined as all family members in the household attending an admission session). Moreover, 75% of families in the BSFT engagement
condition completed treatment (defined as reaching a mutual decision with the therapist that treatment should be terminated), compared with only 25% of families in the treatment-asusual (TAU) condition.
