In 1960 there were 2,250 northern white rhinos, in different African countries. In 1980 there were only 1,000. five years later, there were thirteen. They all lived in one place in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Other countries wanted to take them to zoos, but rhinos do not have babies easily in zoos. The rhinos Stayed in a national park in the DRC and two hundred workers protected them. Hunters could not get near the animals, and the number of rhinos went up to thirty in 2003. Then more hunters arrived. They killed workers, and they killed rhinos. Now there are only northern white rhinos in the national park. Very soon, scientists say, this species is going to be extinct.
