I think good manners can be categorized into several sub-categories such as gentleman-like manners. I think bad manners are ones that are culturally not accepted or generally considered as bad deed. For example, in Korea, it is bad manner to tip in restaurants Some of the good manners for cell phone usage are not talking loudly in public, not using cell phone while driving, and utilizing vibrate mode in the library. In both Western and Easter cultures, talking with mouthful of food is consider as bad manner. So opposite of this is not talking with mouthful of food. One should not make too much noise when eating as well. Knowing how to properly use the utensil is another good table manner. Most important party manner in my opinion is self-control. Sometimes, people have too much fun and lose control of them. Whether alcohol is involved or not, one should know how to have fun in a civilized manner which would not hinder other’s good time as well. I usually say “hi” to other people even if they are strangers, because greeting will have a positive effect on breaking the ice.try my best not to listen to other people’s conversation on the street, but it happens. I think in Western culture it is considered a good manner to hug or kiss another person in greeting, but in Eastern culture, it is not widely acceptable. I normally let people pass me when I am driving in the US, but when I was in Korea, yielding to others was a rare occasion for me. I think it is considered a good manner because I am giving up my position to benefit others .I used to use horn a lot when I drove in Korea, but in the state side, I rarely use it because it is impolite. Manners are important because it shows how well educated and civilized the person is. One’s manner for one culture might be totally opposite for the other, so knowing other cultures as well as prohibiting cultural biased opinion is what we should try to achieve.
