However, certain authors have pointed out that some tourist destinations may be overshadowed by a particular cultural facility or product in a destination, meaning that tourists do not perceive the town or city as a destination, authorities and management bodies failing to grasp the overall image of the city and of potential which such visits have to offer (Andre´, Corte´ s, & Lo´ pez, 2003). In sum, the boom in cultural tourism in certain cities, heritage centres or festivals and major cultural events may have a positive direct effect on the financial situation of not only the cultural activities themselves but also the local economy as a whole.
