Based upon Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s initiative, in order to establish a platform for discussing the
importance of addressing climate change through innovation, the Government of Japan last year
began to host a global conference, the Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF). This forum is aimed
at promoting discussions and cooperation among business persons, researchers and policymakers
from around the world in order to address climate change through innovation of energy and
environmental technologies and their dissemination.
It would be my great pleasure if you are able to participate in the conference at the second annual
meeting to be held on October 7 and 8, 2015, in Tokyo.
In the first ICEF annual meeting last October, nearly 800 global leaders and experts from academia,
business and the public sectors of about 80 countries attended and had intensive discussions. This
year’s ICEF annual meeting represents a critical opportunity to pave the way for COP21 in terms of
building an effective long-term framework to tackle climate change making full use of innovation
under strong collaboration among industry, academia and government.
I sincerely hope that you will be able to attend this meeting and provide us with your insights. I look
forward to seeing you in Tokyo in October.
