Yes, I was hopeless, a hopeless romantic. I could never hate a person once I had loved them, whether it were friends or someone else. Neymar, he was someone special and I feared he would remain special in my heart for a long time or possibly forever. “Snap out of your inner monologue” Selina said. I smiled and shook my head, because she knew me way too well and that worked to my disadvantage at times. “Help me move that desk” I said, changing the subject. She frowned, but then she nodded and helped me move it to the opposite side of the room.
We collapsed on the couch after 2 hours of moving furniture, cleaning and relocating my other stuff. “If I had known that you would make me work my ass off, I would have thought of an excuse not to come over” Selina groaned. I chuckled and nudged her playfully. “I’ll order lunch to make it up?” I offered. “Order dessert too, I need to get my calories back” she smirked. “Let me guess, tiramisu?” I smirked. “Duh, why do you even ask” she said and rolled her eyes with a grin. We ordered Chinese takeout and I headed out quickly to the nearest bakery to get Selina her tiramisu.
“Back, I got us a bottle of red wine too” I yelled as I entered my studio. “Are we celebrating your post-Neymar life?” she smirked. I shrugged. I didn’t feel like celebrating that, because what was there to celebrate about a breakup? We had been happy once and we shared many beautiful memories together. But love isn’t enough to make a relationship work. Your lifestyles, your outlook on life have to match as well. Though we shared many opinions and values, the differences overtook the relationship. I didn’t blame him, because he was who he was. “Earth to little Miss Daisy?” Selina waved her hand in front of my face. “Sorry” I mumbled and rummaged through one of the drawers to find a corkscrew. “Were you thinking about him?” she asked. “Mmm” I mumbled as I tried to open the bottle. “It’ll get easier” she said softly. I pulled the cork out with a plop and grabbed two wineglasses. “Let’s drink” I said after handing her a full glass of wine. “To a new beginning” she toasted.
“F*cking wine” I groaned as I squinted my eyes the next morning with a bursting headache. I hoped I had some Aspirin laying around or otherwise I would be screwed. On a Sunday most shops would be closed in Barcelona and the ones that were open, were too far away. I stumbled out of bed and hit my toe on the bedpost. “F*CK!” I cried out loud in pain. I sat on the edge of the bed and rubbed my toe. It soothed the pain a bit, but it still hurt like hell. My phone rang right at that moment. It laid on the other side of the bed. I groaned in frustration and crawled over the mattress to grab it. A gasp escaped my lips once I saw the caller-id. “Hello?” I said as I rubbed my toe some more. “Fleur” he said, his voice was raspy like he had just woken up. “Yes?” I said. “Have you seen Davi’s favorite t-rex toy? He left it here last time apparently and he has been whining about it ever since on the phone” Neymar asked. “Oh, I might have put it away in that red toy storage box” I said. “I looked, but it isn’t there” he said. “Uhm, it’s not in his room?” I asked. “No” he said. “Have you asked the maids?” I asked. “I did, but they don’t know either and Davi is killing me” Neymar groaned. A small smile curved my lips, because I knew how demanding Davi could be at times and how Neymar would always succumb to his demands once Davi had shed a few tears. “Buy him a new one?” I suggested. “Don’t you think I have tried that? I looked everywhere online” he sighed. “Try that toy store near the Santa Catarina market?” I advised. “I have no clue where that is” he said. “I’ll text you the address” I said. “It’s Sunday so it’s closed. I can’t go next week either, not before 6 pm and by then the shop will be closed too” he groaned. “Shall I go then?” I offered with a mental sigh. “I can’t ask that of you” he said. “I need to get some stuff from the market anyway so it’s no big deal” I said. “Thank you princesa!” he exclaimed.
The phone call ended 5 minutes ago, but my mind was still occupied with the fact that he had called me princesa after such a long time. It had probably slipped his tongue and meant nothing at all, but my stupid heart wanted to make something out of it. I cursed it and examined my toe. It looked a little swollen, but besides that it seemed fine. I got up from the bed and limped to the bathroom to brush my teeth. After getting dressed and having a healthy breakfast which consisted of fresh fruits, muesli and a boiled egg, I decided to go for a walk. It was the perfect day to sit in the park, breathe in the fresh spring air and possibly read a book. It had been a while since I had read anything so this was the perfect opportunity to do just that.
After spending the morning at the park, I returned home to make myself some lunch. I started chopping a few onions which stung my eyes and soon I looked like a sobbing mess. I wiped the tears on my arm and continued to chop the onions when my doorbell rang. “Perfect moment” I grunted and washed my hands. I wiped my eyes as I walked to the door. “What are you doing here?” I gasped. “What happened? Why are you crying?” he panicked and before I could explain where the tears came from, he pulled me into his arms. I was squished against his muscular chest, which made my heart skip a beat. The scent of his favorite fragrance entered my nostrils, making a brief feeling of nostalgia wash over me. I felt his fingers tangle through my hair in a soothing way. I enjoyed this way more than I should, so I freed myself from his arm quickly. It earned me a surprised look from him. “I was cutting onions” I muttered. “Oh” he said, looking equally ill-at-ease. An awkward silence fell over us. “Sorry, do you want to come in?” I asked, since I had forgotten my manners. “Sure” he said and stepped into my studio. “You redecorated?” he asked as he looked around the living room. “Yes” I said. “It looks nice” he said. “Thanks, so what brings you here?” I asked.
Neymar sat down on my couch and met my gaze. “Davi has been asking for you and since I was in the neighborhood to get his favorite cake, I thought I should invite you over” he said. “He is here already?” I asked surprised. “Carol and Davi flew over earlier than planned, because of a strike that is going to take place. She didn’t want to risk getting stuck at some airport” he explained. “Oh” I said. Though I liked Carol, I wasn’t in the mood to see her. She probably knew what had happened between me and Neymar. The last thing I wanted right now is questions about our breakup. The thought of being back at Neymar’s house didn’t appeal to me either, too many memories, memories I was trying to forget these days. “So?” Neymar asked, shuffling on the couch. “I don’t know, I have people coming over” I lied. “Oh” he said with a hint of disappointment. “I’ll get going then. Davi will be here till the end of the week, if you want to visit, you are more than welcome” he said. “I’ll drop by with the t-rex” I said. “Oh yeah, he has ransacked the whole house searching for that dino” Neymar sighed with a hand on his forehead. “He is just like you, when you can’t find what you are looking for” I chuckled. “I don’t ransack the whole house” he smirked. “The maids will tell a totally different story” I frowned. “You and those maids always ganged up on me anyway” he rolled his eyes. “We did no such thing” I said. “Remember when one of the maids broke a framed pictured of my parents? You defended the maid” he frowned. “Because it was an accident and I didn’t want you to fire her for that” I explained. “Neymar she needs this job, she has 2 children” he said imitating my voice. “I hate when you imitate me” I groaned. He laughed out loud and said, “Your heart has always been in the right place Rosa” with a warm smile. My stomach churned instantly after hearing him call me Rosa. The memories of the past washed over me and I clenched my fists to keep my emotions in check. “I’ll go now” he said after a few seconds of silence.
