Queensland Firebirds shooter Gretel Tippett experienced the highs and lows of sport in the space of a heartbeat after scoring the winner in Sunday's thrilling trans-Tasman decider against the NSW Swifts.
Unorthodox at the best of times, the basketball convert had an otherwise forgettable game for the Firebirds, making just 10 of her 17 attempts on goal as her side went perilously close to a third successive grand final defeat.
But Tippett - the sister of AFL duo Kurt and Joel - is now the toast of Queensland after her clutch goal that gave the Firebirds the lead for the first time in the match, with just 15 seconds left on the clock.
Tippett said it was all instinct.
"I heard this one behind me (Firebirds centre Kimberley Ravaillion) say `just shoot it'," Tippett said.
"I was contemplating whether to pass it off to Didi (Romelda Aiken) or not.
"But I was very nervous. I just didn't really think.
