Inflammation is the response of living tissues to injury. It is a
complex pathophysiological process mediated by a variety of
molecules produced by leukocytes, macrophages and mast
cells as well as by enzyme activation and mediator release
which bring about tissue breakdown and edema formation as
a result of extravasation of fluid and proteins and accumulation
of leukocytes at the inflammatory site (White, 1999;
Katzung, 2004). Inflammation is typically a protective mechanism
that is triggered in response to noxious stimuli; trauma or
infection to protect the body and to facilitate recovery process,
however, if unchecked leads to chronic inflammatory
disorders.
A large number of steroids and non-steroidal antiinflammatory
drugs (NSAIDS) are available in the market
