When examining the normal weight, overweight and obese
patient populations as separate groups, 35.2% (103/293), 36.3%
(37/102) and 47.9% (45/94), respectively, gained inadequate gestational weight gain
at o20 weeks. The proportion of women with inadequate rates of
gestational weight gain at o20 weeks is similar among BMI groups (P = 0.08). At 20
to 28 weeks, 17.7% (52/293) of normal weight women, 13.7%
(14/102) of overweight women and 28.7% (28/94) of obese
women had inadequate rates of gestational weight gain. At 20 to 28 weeks, a larger
proportion of the obese women had an inadequate rate of gestational weight gain
(P = 0.02).
