The image processing aspects of this study is comprised of three
steps: background segmentation, image enhancements, and calibration.
A computer program, written in Visual Basic 6.0, was
developed for processing and analyzing the captured images. The
program automatically records the surface images of the citrus
fruits. The program was written with applications that pertained
specifically to the functions of capturing images from two perpendicular
views of fruit obtained from the two cameras, estimation of
lateral surface areas, calculation of volume of canonical discs (frustums),
and assembling and computing the total volume of the
fruits.
