3. Results
The 18 infected dogs showed microfilariaemia levels
ranging from 110 to 560 MF/ml in October 2009 (Table 1).
At the physical examination nine out of 18 dogs showed
the presence of skin lesions (Fig. 2), mainly localized at the
posterior and anterior limbs, but also at inner thighs, ventral
thorax and abdomen (Table 1). The lesions consisted
of subcutaneous nodules, alopecia, localized or generalized
hypotrichosis with erythematous and scaling margins,
erosions and lichenification.
Cutaneous examinations were negative for ectoparasites,
dermatophytes and arthrospores.
