New Method for Analyzing Blood and Teeth Samples Help Estimate Criminal´s Age
Scientists from KU Leuven, Belgium developed a test to predict an individual´s age based on both blood and teeth samples that accurately help the police in tracking down criminals.
Bram Bekaert and his team used four DNA breakthrough methylation markers for highly accurate age predictions that helped determine an individuals´ age with a margin of error at 3.75 years for blood samples and 4.86 years for teeth.
Bekaert says the way organs are regulated by DNA changes as the body ages. These changes then can be seen in the body´s genome.
