The callus cultures producing small shoots were excised and transferred to shoot elongation medium (SEM, Table 1) for 2–3 weeks. The elongated shoots were excised and transferred to RIM (Table 1) for 3–4 weeks. Transgenic plantlets grown in 500 ml glass jars were subsequently transferred to the greenhouse in pots containing agropeat–soil (cocopeat, vermiculite and soil in ratio of 1:1:2). The plants were maintained under humid conditions for the first week by polythene covers, which then were gradually removed for hardening and acclimatization of transformed plants during the second week.
