Ninety-one questionnaires were distributed to all
one hundred and eight academic staff within the
Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy; thirty-nine
were returned, giving a return rate of 43%. The
reason the questionnaires were distributed only to
the academic staff in the Faculty of Commerce and
Accountancy at this stage is that all are considered
experts in the performance measurement framework,
making them very familiar with the concept of the
Balanced Scorecard and able to provide invaluable
insight into the usage of this method. Based on
results from interviews and questionnaires, the data
was grouped into objective categories, which were
later used to construct the model, including the
strategy map of the University. This model, with the
explanation, was then resubmitted to the informants
for further comments. The comments were then
used to improve the use of the model.
