The qualitative research approach is useful in tourism because leisure is not quantifiable but it is of a qualitative experience, it allows a researcher to understand people’s needs and aspirations better (Veal, 1997). It gives a more valuable insight into the minds of people. It may even lead to unexpected findings or indicate probable relationship/s, causes, and effects (Burns, 2000). Yet, qualitative research also has its limitations; it has received considerable criticism because of its inadequate reliability and validity nature. It is also hard to make confident generalizations about the study to a wider context (Burns, 2000). It is also very time-consuming (Finn, Elliott-White & Walton, 2000; Burns, 2000).
