Directly employing moving double ellipsoid heat source model in electron beam welding numerical simulation will lead to huge calculation and low efficiency. In order to solve the problem, a new heat source model, segmented moving double ellipsoid heat source model, is established. Both moving double ellipsoid heat source model and segmented moving double ellipsoid heat source model are used to simulate a typical electron beam welding process, and the calculation results are compared with experimental results. It indicates that by using the new model analysis efficiency can be improved greatly while high precision is still obtained, which makes it possible to simulate the welding process of real complicated welding structure.
