How did a giraffe get for her home in Africa to France? She was a gift from Egypt to King Charles X of France. She traveled on a boat more than 2,000 miles down the Nile River to Alexandria, Egypt. Then she traveled by ship across the Medterranean Sea to France.
After her arrival in France, the giraffe walked from Marselle To Paris. Is was a long walk--550 miles! Thousands of people came out to welcome her. She needed a lot of milk every day, so cows traveled with her at all time. In one town, a French woman made a special raincoat for her. It protected the giraffe from bad weather. She also wore a necklace from Egypt around her long neck. It protected her from danger.
