Bonds have had a good run
“The potential for relatively big losses in bonds worries us because bonds effectively haven’t had a bear market in decades,” said Ray Dalio. Bonds have had a good run in the recent past. Over the last five years, long-term Treasury (TLT) rates have risen over 28.8%, medium-term Treasury rates (IEF) have risen 16.3%, while short-term Treasury (SHY) rates are up 2.7%. Meanwhile, the aggregate bond market (BND) has risen about 14.5%, while investment-grade corporate bonds (LQD) have bagged good returns of over 30%.
But have bonds reached their tipping point yet? They sure haven’t seen a bear market in decades, according to Ray Dalio.
