t the beginning of the course, all students were pretested on their current use of learning strategies. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MLSQ) developed by Pintrich, Smith, Garcia, and McKeachie (1991) was used to measure these skills. At this time, students were also asked several demographic questions which were later used as controls for the study. These included gender, age, online experience, and general computer experience (See Appendix A). Prior review of the literature related to SRL had suggested that these factors might contribute to learners’ use of self-regulated skills.
