Essential oils are very complex natural mixtures mainly employed for their antibacterial, antifungal and insecticidal properties. They are also commonly used in perfumes, cosmetics, bath products, to flavor food and drinks, and in
household cleaning products. They are quite simple to obtain from fresh plant material, and may become an economic resource for many countries with high biodiversity such as Nepal. The essential oil of L. neesiana fruit is an example of such a natural product and this work may be considered as a first step for its possible dermatological application of this essential oil as an antibacterial ingredient in topical formulations.
