The ecological model is consistent with many current organizational systems theories in that it emphasizes relationships between the individual and the context, as well as their development over time. However, the ecological model also emphasizes the importance of individual development, and proposes that through reciprocal interactions, healthy individuals lead to healthy organizations. With regard to employees, this means to be successful, organizations must invest in long-term employee development, recognize psychological as well as financial outcomes, and increase the ability of employees to influence the organization by reducing the power differential between the highest and lowest level workers.
