Biological Safety Cabinets (BSCs) are the primary containment device essential for protecting the workers, environment and products from exposure to infectious agents within the laboratory. The managers and users need to understand the different types of BSCs and their application. They should be able to identify malfunctioning cabinets and know the basics of BSC certification. Many laboratory institutions using BSC’s in Thailand lack knowledge of the maintenance and annual BSC certification requirements, so they must rely on local vendors to perform their annual BSC certification. However, many local vendors in Thailand do not follow the required standards set forth by NSF/ ANSI 49 guidelines and other international guidelines. It is very important for anyone responsible for owning or operating a BSC to understand the concept of BSC certification in order to select a qualified vendor as well as possessing the knowledge to interpret what is acceptable workmanship. . This training will deliver the knowledge and skills required to understand basic concepts, selection criterea and certification requirements of Biological Safety Cabinets.
