CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
● Compared to community-acquired pneumonia patients, health care-associated pneumonia patients present with more severe disease, are more likely to be infected with drug-resistant pathogens, and suffer worse health outcomes.
● Health care-associated pneumonia criteria are a poor predictive tool for the presence of drug-resistant pathogens.
● Data for individual health care-associated pneumonia criteria are limited.
● There is currently no evidence to indicate that guideline-concordant health careassociated pneumonia therapy improves outcomes in health care-associated pneumonia patients.
