10. Natural enemies
Over 47 species of natural enemies attack M. sacchari worldwide. Although unable to prevent the buildup of damaging numbers of the sugarcane aphid even in the season, natural enemies play a very important role ( van Rensburg and van Hamburg, 1975), and often maintain the sugarcane aphid populations below the economic threshold levels (ETLs) in sorghum ( van Rensburg, 1973b; Anonymous, 1978; Chang (1981a) and Chang (1981b); Meksongsee and Chawanapong, 1985)
