However, ethical issues that are also political issues are complicated by the fact that views on them inevitably are dependent on ideology. An ideology is a system of beliefs that are both factual and value-laden about the way the world works. Ideologies implicitly or explicitly answer basic questions about human nature (are we inherently selfish? benevolent?), about the purpose of government (protect private property? reduce inequality? enforce majority will? protect individuals right), about the good society (free equal? just? conforming to the will of one's God or deity?), and the like. Our ideologies, or outlooks, enormously influence how we see the world, and inevitably make us more sensitive to certain aspects of the world and perhaps less sensitive to others.
