Severe pre-eclampsia requires treatment with a dual aim, ie, preventing the harmful effects of elevated maternal blood pressure and preventing eclampsia. Management of severe pre-eclampsia begins with transfer of the mother in a fully equipped ambulance or helicopter to a maternity ward providing an appropriate level of care for both mother and child.2 At admission and daily thereafter, clinical, cardiotoco- graphic, laboratory, and ultrasound testing are required to detect the severity of pre-eclampsia and tailor management accordingly.
