The War Graves Commission survey party traversed the railway over the period 9 September to 10 October 1945. Their task was to locate all the POW cemeteries and grave sites between Nong Pladuk and Thanbyuzayat. They also recovered records and cameras which had been buried in individual graves, unbeknown to the Japanese, by senior POW officers.
