was not suitable for our samples because of its insufficient
sensitivity. Dowex 50Wx8-40 strong acidic cation exchange
resin was used for Mg2+ determination. The loaded sample
volume and flow rate were optimised. The optimised flow
rate was 3 ml min−1. Amberlite XAD-4 resin was used after
blockage against cations and preconditioning. A microcolumn
filled with XAD-4 resin was first applied to resorcinol
as a reference substance for polyphenols. Precipitation was
also used for the separation of polysaccharides. The fractionation
results for these samples are given in Table 6.
Extraction with 0.1M pepsin-containing HCl and
n-octanol solvent were made; their results were used for
bioavailabilty purposes. Pepsin + HCl and n-octanol were
used as a model system to establish the absorbed fraction
of magnesium in the stomach and intestine, respectively.
The results are shown in Table 7.
