The number of migrants from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan may be small compared with the historical migration out Europe, but what counts is not so much the quantity as the quality of the movers and their control of resources. While not all Chinese migrants are ex-remedy wealthy, some are , and large numbers are armed with education and capital. For example, Hong Kong and Taiwan migrants have dominated the business immigration programmes of Canada, Australia and New sealand. Hong Kong and Taiwan migrants accounted for nearly two fifths of all the entrepreneurs who enered Canada during the 1980 s; and the 11,000 admitted o that country between 1987 and 1990 brought an esimated C$ 14.3 billion in the lecade to 1987 in the US, the number of Chinese-owned businesses tripled to some 90,000, with annual receipts of US$9.6 billion
