Many people are discriminated against based on race, color of skin, and religion. This is a big challenge in many individual’s lives. Discrimination starts because a specific group of people want to have more power than others. The group that feels superior will start to make people from different backgrounds feel inferior. In American history African Americans were a group of people that were discriminated because of their skin color, and with time, more groups of race started to get discriminated. Until this day discrimination has not stopped, it continues to happen not just in America, but worldwide.
I believe that I along with many others from different backgrounds can overcome this difficulty of discrimination and prevent it from happening to a larger extent.
At times my friends and I are discriminated against outside of school by people because we have different skin color. Not only is it us, many other groups of people are discriminated because of their background. Even though it is a bad feeling to get discriminated I don’t let it get to me neither do my friends. I am tired of hearing and seeing people get hurt by the stereotypes, like me, so I have decided to make an effort to stop the stereotypes and discriminatory comments said towards me by seeking to obtain a good education. I believe that by stepping up and fighting for this cause will encourage other students do the same.
Before entering high school, my friends and I use to go to the park a lot, so we can play soccer. We use to get along with everyone that went and we enjoyed playing with them. One day when I went to play with my friend we met some new people, and we played with them. At first everything was going great, but then the people we were playing with started to discriminate us because we were “different”. Secondly, I was sad because they were also talking bad about my friends culture. We both felt bad. We didn’t know what to do, so we went to talk with our parents. We told them what happened, and they said that those were just ignorant people that didn’t know how to make themselves happy anymore. Then my parents told me they were going to push me so I can strive to get a good education in order keep breaking the cycle in which we live.
My belief of breaking the cycle, came into play throughout my high school career. With the help of my parents, I became a student with the potential to do great in all my classes. For instance, throughout my high school career I got high grades in all my classes by attending tutoring when I missed or was struggling in a class. I also, overcame the challenges I was going to inevitably face starting with discrimination. I didn’t let stereotypes get to me I kept on going with my education. Now that I am a senior I have the mindset of getting out of my community and achieving great things in life by going to college. I want to do this in order to stop discrimination that happens in my community and outside my community.
I believe that discrimination should stop because we are all human beings and should be treated equal. Just because someone is of different race they should not be discriminated. Just because we know the past of each specific race does not mean we have the right to discriminate people. So why should people discriminate others without the knowledge of their life?
