affective load theory is one of over seventy theories named in this textbook
by Karen Fisher et al. Information seeking behavior is a growing field of study,
specifically the affective-cognitive relationship of users. The content of this chapter
includes basic affective load formulas as well as detailed descriptions of the theory.
“Learned Affective Norms” (LANs) are discussed along with their positive and negative
contributions to the user’s end result of the assigned task. The information states the need
for more research in the field of affective load theory and the affective information
environment of searchers. By researching the affective-cognitive activity the theorist
hopes to strengthen information system services and design for information professionals.
