Port throughput can be recognized as following a trend of economic development.
By Fig. 1.2, it is seen that port throughput is increasing continuously at
almost a linear rate. China’s demand from global contract manufacturing may slow
down, which will affect the sea cargo logistics. However, if domestic logistics does
grow, waterway logistics is also expected to do so during the period of the 12th
five year plan. Actually, China has six of the ten largest (in terms of cargocontainer
throughput) ports in the world; in 2010, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong
Kong were ranked numbers 1, 3 and 4 respectively
