Man Accused of Causing $250K Damage to Alamo
Julio Perez caused about $250,000 in damage to the Alamo in San Antonio by carving his name into an interior wall with a key. A tour guide saw Perez and notified the Alamo Rangers. He faces charges of criminal mischief.
The 22-year-old scratched his name into a wall inside an area of the shrine known as the Monks´ Burial Room. The designated World Heritage Site is more than 250 years old.
"Many Texans died here fighting for the independence of Texas. We don´t take it lightly when someone comes and desecrates this area," says Chief Mark Adkins with the Alamo Rangers.
