Alterations in the integument occur commonly
throughout the gestational period and are usually a source
of concern and distress to the patient. The mucosa of the
oral cavity, nasal cavity, vagina, and vulva are the most
easily affected during pregnancy, changes usually manifesting
as an inflammatory state or tumor.
These diseases can be of new onset or exacerbations of pre-existing conditions,
such as infectious diseases of the vagina and vulva,
rhinitis and rhinosinusitis, gingivitis, and pregnancy
tumor.8e10 The majority are, however, transient, with resolution
of the symptoms after delivery.
