One of the limitations of the current study is the small number of dogs used. The reason for this in the mosquitoes phase of the study is that our attention was focused mainly on the oldest surviving microfilariae after treatment, in case there was a rebound in their Wolbachia levels. A rebound in these endosymbionts might allow normal development of the microfilariae to L3 in the mosquito vector and subsequent normal development of thes L3 to adult worm in the vertebrate host
