P. guilliermondii strain M8 showed effective biocontrol capabilities,
both in storage and controlled conditions, in reducing the disease
incidence and severity of grey mold of apples caused by B.
cinerea. Though some postharvest biocontrol agents are already
on the market, great potential exists for new biofungicide products,
to be commercialized on a global scale for the postharvest control
of fungal diseases.
