Films and videotapes are widely thought to accurately represent real scenes.
Thus, the possibility of digital alterations raises some real problems. Video tapes supposed to represent actual events could easily be doctored. Another concern is for film archives : Because digital videotapes suffer no loss in resolution when copied, there are no “generations”. Thus, it will be impossible for historians and archivists to tell whether the videotape they ‘re viewing is the real thing or not.
Indeed, it is possible to create virtual images during live television events. These images-such as a Coca-Cola logo in the center of a soccer field-don’t exist in reality but millions of viewers see them on their TV screens.
