3. Results
A total of 89 FMTcourses were provided to 87 patients (FMT was
administered twice to 2 patients). Fourteen of the 89 FMT courses
were excluded from this case series for the following reasons: 5
patients received FMT for conditions other than RCDI; 2 patients
had only one documented C. difficile recurrence prior to the FMT; 3
patients had diarrhea but a negative C. difficile test result prior to
FMT; frozen stool was used to treat 1 patient (protocol violation); 1
patient had short bowel syndrome, and 2 cases were excluded as
adequate follow up data could not be obtained. The remaining 75
FMT courses provided to 74 patients are the subject of this report.
Patient demographic data have been summarized in Table 1.
Women received 49 of the FMT courses (65%); men received 26
(35%). Patient ages ranged from 6 to 94 years (median 63 years).
Thirty-nine (52%) patients were 65 years or older at the time when
FMT was provided. The median number of days that elapsed from
the time of the initial diagnosis of CDI to the administration of FMT
was 206 days (range 51e1282 days). Two-thirds of the patients had
been referred from health care institutions outside of the EHDC
catchment area.
