Nursing interventions are used to target specific stages of the stress response, and include primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention interventions. Primary interventions seek to retain the client’s system stability by expanding the flexible line of defense, and include health promotion activities and the identification of risk factors (Fitzpatrick & Whall, 2005; Neuman, 1995; Neuman, 2001). Secondary interventions seek to help the client attain system stability by identifying and implementing actions that strengthen the lines of defense, which in turn promotes reconstitution and decreases the stress
response.
