Honey (1999) defines ecotourism as travel to fragile, pristine, and usually protected areas and Ryan et al., (2000) state that the experience of ecotourism essentially lies in the intensity of the interaction with the site visited. Although forms of nature based tourism is usually associated with mountains and forest environments, ecotourism experiences may as well be provided in highly modified land such as urban areas (Higham & Lück, 2002; Dodds & Joppe, 2003).
