LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2003--Health Net, Inc. (NYSE:HNT) today announced a strategic relationship with EyeMed Vision Care (NYSE:LUX), focused on the delivery of competitive vision benefit products that will be sold in conjunction with Health Net medical plans.
Health Net and EyeMed have entered into a Letter of Intent, under which Health Net-branded vision products will be administered by EyeMed. The Health Net Vision brand will be retained by Health Net, Inc., which will continue to market and sell Health Net Vision products to Health Net commercial members through Health Net medical sales representatives. More information will be available later this year. The specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Health Net, Inc. separately announced that it will sell its wholly owned vision subsidiary, Health Net Vision, Inc., with approximately 110,000 commercial vision members in California, to a third party in an unrelated transaction.
EyeMed's vision plans should provide Health Net Vision members with significant savings on eye care and eyewear, while also offering a diverse provider network of nearly 3,000 eye care providers and optical retailers, including the nation's leading optical retailer, LensCrafters. The business relationship with Health Net Vision significantly strengthens EyeMed's presence and provider network in California.
