Eating disorder examination questionnaire
To assess the degree of pre-experimental body image disturbance, the participants
were asked to fill out the ‘Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire’ (EDE-Q,
Fairburn & Beglin, 1994; Tuschen-Caffier, Pook, & Hilbert, 2005). The EDE-Q scales
‘Weight concern’ and ‘Shape concern’ were used in order to assess the relevance of
body weight and shape for the participants. In the validation study of the
questionnaire, the internal consistency of these subscales ranges from Cronbach’s
¼0.80 to ¼0.88 and the test-retest reliability varies between rtt¼0.71 and rtt¼0.74
for an intervening period of 3 months. For the sample in the current study, the internal
consistency was ¼0.79 for the scale ‘Weight concern’ and ¼0.91 for the scale
‘Shape concern’.
