It appears that both chitin and chitosan have a similar inhibitory effect against three bacterial
strains. Compared to the control group, the amount of V. cholerae
bacteria declined by 57% and 63% for chitin and chitosan treated
samples, respectively; 51% and 62% for chitin and chitosan,
respectively, against S. disenteriae; and 80% for both chitin and
chitosan against B. fragilis.
