5.2 Self-Confidence in performing Daily Activities without Falling
After exercise program, the average FES scores of both groups did not increase significantly. Both programs did not increase self confidence in performing daily activities without falling. The average FES did not differ significantly between groups after the exercise. All subjects had moderate self-confidence with the scores ranged from 78 to 100. One possible reason could be that at the beginning of the exercise twelve volunteers already had FES score over 80 and three had a score of 100. Therefore, the room for improvement was small. This agrees with McAuley and Myers that the FES had a well-documented ceiling affect in high functioning people. Another reason could be that the FES focuses mainly on indoor activities but our subjects had both indoor and outdoor fear of fallings. He majority of subjects in experimental group had risk factors related to fall history and fear of falling. Then, subjects in control group seemed to have more FES improvement because they had more fear of falling before exercise.
