Equimolecular aqueous mixtures of protonated and deprotonated
alkylcarboxylic acids produce vesicles that self-assemble in
the presence of tetrabutylammonium to give oily droplets (i.e.
coacervate droplets) that flocculate through the formation of conglomerates
of individual droplets. The overall density of such conglomerates
is slightly lower than that of the solution in which they
form, which facilitates creaming and phase separation from the
bulk solution (Fig. 1A) (Ruiz et al., 2006).
