The share of long-term unemployment has been
more than 40 percent since the beginning of
2010, peaking at nearly 46 percent in the second
quarter of that year. Even during the recession
of 1981–82, when the total unemployment rate
reached 10.8 percent, the peak share of long-term
unemployment was only 26 percent.
