In humans, PEH has been documented following various types of exercise, including walking, running, cycling, swimming, and resistance exercise (18,26). In spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs), dynamic exercise (running) as well as electrical stimulation of skeletal muscles (isometric contraction) can induce PEH (18). While a short bout of low intensity exercise effectively produces PEH, more prolonged and/or higher intensity exercise results in a greater decrease in blood pressure and longer PEH duration (21,25–26).
