Mucoceles of the oral cavity are more common in young
males. Traumatisms are the usual cause, and the most
frequent location is the mucosa of the lower lip.
The CO2 laser is rapid (operating time 3-5 minutes) and
simple for resecting oral mucoceles. Its advantages include
a reduction in the number of relapses in comparison
with the scalpel. On the other hand, the treatment of
these lesions with the CO2 laser offers a better esthetic
outcome, with less postoperative bleeding and paresthesias
than conventional surgical removal of the lesion.
Lastly, ablation with the CO2 laser offers a more comfortable
postoperative course for the patient.
